Responsibilities & Context

Responsibilities:

 

Graphic Design:

  1. Design visually appealing layouts for newspaper articles, features, and advertisements, ensuring readability and aesthetic appeal.
  2. Create eye-catching graphics, illustrations, infographics, and charts to accompany editorial content and enhance storytelling.
  3. Collaborate with editors, writers, and photographers to conceptualize and execute design solutions that meet project objectives and deadlines.

 

Print and Digital Production:

 

  1. Prepare print-ready files for publication, adhering to printing specifications and color management standards.
  2. Optimize graphics and layouts for digital platforms, ensuring compatibility across web, mobile, and social media channels.
  3. Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in graphic design and publishing to continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of visual assets.

Branding and Marketing Collateral:

 

  1. Develop branding materials, including logos, mastheads, and style guides, to maintain a consistent visual identity for the newspaper.
  2. Create marketing collateral, such as posters, flyers, and promotional materials, to support advertising and circulation efforts.
  3. Collaborate with the marketing team to design campaigns and materials that resonate with target audiences and drive engagement.

Quality Assurance:

 

  1. Review final proofs and mockups to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to design guidelines and brand standards.
  2. Conduct quality checks on printed materials to identify and address any errors or inconsistencies before publication.

Collaboration and Communication:

 

  1. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including editors, photographers, journalists, and marketing professionals, to brainstorm ideas and execute projects collaboratively.
  2. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather feedback, address revisions, and ensure alignment with project goals and expectations.

Requirements:

 

  1. Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field.
  2. Proven experience as a graphic designer, preferably in a newspaper or publishing environment.
  3. Proficiency in graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  4. Strong portfolio showcasing a range of design work, including layout design, typography, and illustration.
  5. Excellent creative and conceptual thinking skills, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics.
  6. Ability to multitask and prioritize workload in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  7. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  8. Knowledge of printing processes and production techniques.
  9. Familiarity with web design principles and digital publishing platforms is a plus.
